Why Aren't Blog Layout Changes Accessible in New Posts?

I've made changes to the blog layout but when I create a new post all of the new elements I've added are grayed out and it says I have to go to the layout editor to access. How do I make these elements accessible in posts so I can add content?

I am working on an unpublished site, so I can't "republish" anything. I also find it really annoying that I can't delete that initial Subhead section, but I've worked around it.

Michael, text you place in the Blog Layout editor, should be connected to your blog posts data (Right Click > Connect to Data). Any widgets you place when designing the blog layout will replicate on every blog post. I'd recommend only the date, title, photo and author. Keep the rest of the blog content on the actual blog post editor.

I'm trying to create recipe blog for a client that they will add content to. It requires some specific sections and layout. I need these elements to be present each time a new post is created without recreating the wheel each time. It's staring to look like the only way to do this is by copy/pasting an existing post as a starting point, which seems a bit odd.

Have you considered using collections and dynamic pages? I think this would be a better solution vs. using blogs.

Hi @michaelmiller! Cliton is totally right, collections and dynamic pages are the way to go here. If you haven't used them before, check out this support article:

Thanks @Clinton and @Shawn I appreciate the suggestion. I have never used Dynamic pages. I looked into them and watched a webinar. I think they would work great if someone like me were creating the recipe blogs, but I'm not sure they are intuitive enough for a non-techy client to go in and create weekly recipe blogs. I'll try playing with them a bit, but I think I'm going to have to create a post and just have the client duplicate and replace the info each time. Seems like the only easy solution.
