Set up a $20 voucher in e-commerce store but set price to $0

Hi there ... has anyone done something similar? We want to give away a voucher to the value of $20, but obviously set the price to $0 as a digital gift voucher that can be redeemed. Or is it better to just create a product instead of a gift voucher?
